Still Here!

No posts for a whole month! My goodness! I think the heat evaporated all my blogging ambition over the last few weeks. Here's what's new with me:

The U2 concert in Toronto was three weeks ago! I need to write about that.

My brother Ewan has been selected for Northwind, the Canadian national Aussie Rules Football team. He is headed to the International Cup in Sydney next weekend. Amazing.

Over the past three months or so, I have become very fond of BodyPump barbell work-out classes. I try to go three times a week but sometimes other things interfere with my schedule, which makes me irksome. I have seen no obvious results from these very challenging classes but I enjoy weight training nonetheless.

In even more sporting news, for some inexplicable reason, I decided to go back to Kendo training after a break of about six years. Now I have the skill level of a beginner combined with all the bad habits of an undisciplined, experienced Kendoka. There was a big Kendo event this weekend which I hope to post about soon.

About a month ago, when I was walking to work one Monday morning, I found myself in the middle of a scene of police and ambulance activity. Someone had just died from a fall from a high storey of a hotel. The body was still on the street when I arrived, right on my regular path. There was nothing in any of the papers about an accident or foul play at the hotel so I can only guess this was a suicide. I still wonder why someone would choose to end it all like that.

I got the sad news that my Australian great uncle Bob passed away. Will miss his wit, for sure.

I checked out 3D archaeology movie 'Cave of Forgotten Dreams' and it got me thinking about 3D movies as a form of archaeological site management in terms of visitor access. Must ponder more. Upper Paleololithic art is a fascinating topic in general.

Some foreign investors want to build a golf course in a part of this valley in Bhutan. There's a petition against it.

My work contract will end in two months. It's quite unlikely that the position will be continued - I don't know what I'll be doing from October onwards. Hire me? Or... sponsor me as a travel blogger, maybe!

Another week of hot weather is coming up. I don't have air conditioning or anything like that at my apartment, just a small oscillating fan which I leave running, pointed at my bed, all night.

Well, that's pretty much it for now.

It sounds as if you've had a busy month! I agree completely about summer. It was grim here today; hot and muggy. Luckily, my strawberries are still going strong.

Cave of Forgotten Dreams is the first and so far only film I've seen in 3D. A lot of people with whom I saw it thought that the 3D was unnecessary, but I think it really worked and added to the impact of the film and the art. I love Hertzog's documentaries; so quirky!

And if you're seriously looking for something travel and blogging related soon, I might be able to swing something with one of our clients. I think they could pay for the trip itself and your expenses, anyway. It's pretty epic. Let me know if you are interested and I'll tell you more via email (rob@latenightpartnership.com).

I've signed the petition too...

So glad you hear you're doing well! So many things to comment on but I will just say that I'm impressed that you're kicking so much butt physically and congrats to your brother! Sorry about the loss of your great uncle too. Stay cool lady! This summer has been the worst!
