The Next Adventure

So, I just bought plane tickets to fly to Bangkok and then home from Ho Chi Minh City in the fall. No big deal, I do things like that every day...

...in my daydreams.

This really came out of nowhere. It was Antoaneta who was contemplating a Southeast Asia trip a couple of weeks ago. She casually mentioned, "You should come, too!" At first I thought it wouldn't fit to my budget or my vacation schedule but I quickly decided to make it work. Now my 15 day stay is confirmed and it's time to look into hotels, visas, local flights and immunizations.

Our provisional itinerary includes: Bangkok, seeking out elephants, a Thai cooking class, Angkor Wat and nearby temples, Hanoi, Halong Bay and Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City.

We are now officially the kind of girls who go to Cambodia on holiday.

It's better to get visa on arrival in Bangkok. It's cheaper than if you get it from the embassy. It's a 1000 baht (USD 30). Embassy visas cost about double or more depending on country of origin.

This is Amy from mistranslation - thanks for your comment! Two idea to add to that list of cities for you - Hue was one of my favorite cities in Vietnam and if you like history and sprawling old temples and palaces, you'll like the city. If you're a beach person (and who doesn't want to break up this kind of trip with time on tropical beaches?) check out at least one Thai island and maybe Mui Ne in Vietnam if you have time!

Quan An Ngon at 138 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street in District 1 -- go there. It was my favorite restaurant in all Vietnam. It's the creme de la creme of street vendor food.
