getting away with it all

I have achieved the impossible. Or, if not the impossible, the rarely attempted.

I have orchestrated the seamless transition between one Toronto apartment to another Toronto apartment with only one month's notice, at no financial loss to myself.

That's right! Thanks to Craigslist and my own frenzy of open house showings, I found a new tenant for my apartment. Actually, there was a small battle for the place. This means that I won't lose my last month's deposit, which is usually the case when one gives only one month's warning of vacating.

Not only that, but the apartment I'll be moving into is quite a lot bigger and for only $75 extra a month (found, again, with thanks to Craigslist). I will actually be able to have a table for eating meals instead of the plate-on-the-knees routine I've been doing for 2 years... The apartment has lots of cool details like a big south-facing window. It's 10 minutes walk to work from the other direction (instead of 5 minutes where I am now). The place is in Little Italy proper, the funky College Street strip. Can't wait!

Did I mention that I was picked out of, like, 15 applicants for that apartment?

Also, Vince has managed to procure an old beater bicycle for me, so soon I can ride to work and to do my errands.

And because I didn't lose my last month deposit, I have probably saved my November holiday, too. More on that later.

All in all, I'm feeling pretty fortunate these days!

Congrats on the new place. Maybe the Norman love bites gave you some luck. :)

I don't know why you keep calling them beater bikes, you know that if you wanted to flip it on craigslist, you could probably get $200 for it. With all those dam bohemian hippies hanging around. Hmm maybe I should flip it and put it towards my motorbike fund. Tempting.

Hey, thanks everyone for your kind words!
Vince, some of the cruiser bikes going for $200 on Craigslist ARE beaters: they are rusted and barely rideable! If you wanna flip something, you should go back to that bike shop we checked out and buy the $50 cruiser that was too small for me...
